Rebecca Vincent - Artist Statement
Based in Horsley, Northumberland

Born in Lancashire, Rebecca studied Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford and Newcastle University before becoming a professional artist specialising in printmaking. She teaches printmaking to adults as well as exhibiting her work in galleries. She is co-founder of Horsley Printmakers – a studio devoted to the creation of original hand-made prints. The studio offers a range of courses and workshops in printmaking - see www.horsleyprintmakers.co.uk

Her etchings and monotypes of the English landscape have deep, glowing colours and delicate textures. She use a wide range of hand-printed marks to convey the patterns of fields, hills and hedgerows. In Rebecca’s hands, the landscape undergoes a stylisation process that clarifies the pattern of fields and hedgerows into an almost abstract pattern of intersecting shapes. Add in strong colours and a variety of interesting textures and you have her distinctive landscape style.

“Printmaking has always held a fascination for me. Etching in particular, with its subtle relief surface, has given me an unlimited range of marks, textures and tones with which to interpret my subject matter. As I work, the qualities of the natural landscape and the etched mark becomes indivisible so that the emerging print is about both surface and subject.”
