Meet The Artist
Carol Nunan
I began printmaking 12 years ago when I enrolled on a monotype printmaking workshop through The Centre for Lifelong Learning at The University of Newcastle upon Tyne. I had no idea at the time how that small step would alter my life course.
I am passionate about the media and love every aspect of it from turning a source of inspiration into a plate, inking it up for the first time to reveal it’s secrets, and playing with various inking techniques to manipulate the information that is there to be found on the plate.
My chief areas of interest are collagraphs and monotype but as I teach most printmaking media, (etching, photo etching, linocuts, monotype and collagraphs) I sometimes switch course when my students inspire me.
I originally trained as a graphic designer ay The National College of Art & Design in Dublin and my career took me from my native Ireland back to Africa where I grew up until I was 16, returning after college for another 6 years. I ended up in Northumberland on my return to the Northern hemisphere where I worked first for a design studio and then as a design manager for Procter & Gamble before I had my first child. I discovered printmaking when my second child was 18 months old and the rest is history as they say.
