Artist Statements and CVs
Anna Tosney
Born and bred in Skipton, the inspiration for my work has always come from the Dales and the scenes of farming life that surround us. I aim to recreate the moody skies, amazing landscapes, and loveable characters of Yorkshire. My style is to distil the scenes to their simplest forms using drypoint and monoprint techniques, and the resulting work is both bold and contemporary.

Workshops and Community Art Projects:
I run weekly drop in print and draw workshops at Hive Yorkshire in Shipley, where people can come and learn various drawing and printmaking techniques on an informal basis. I also run occasional weekend and evening workshops in printmaking, both privately and through inc. creative (Linked to Leeds City College) where I teach monoprinting and drypoint techniques to groups of adults.
I have worked voluntarily with several schools on printmaking and ceramic projects, where students make up individual components, put together to create impressive larger group artworks.
I am keen to be involved in community art projects, for example ‘Flock to Skipton’ (2009 -2011) for which I was commissioned to design the original sheep used for attracting awareness and sponsors for the project. ‘Flock to Skipton’ followed in the footsteps of Cow Parade, with 26 larger-than-life fibre-glass sheep, designed by local artists, attracting visitors to the town of Skipton for a six month period. The sheep were later auctioned, with all funds going to local community groups and charities.
