Moira McTague

A Fine art graduate who specialises in etching and painting, her work is mainly inspired by her immediate surroundings, sometimes birds, flowers, the garden, animals or still lives, finding beauty in things that could so easily be ignored.

Working from life, she explores her ideas through painting and etching. Subjects are observed in depth and recurring themes often develop. She also keeps a daily sketchbook, tiny studies to document the days.

As an etcher, the physical processes of working on the etching plate, the infinite possibilities of etching methods and the beautiful qualities of line and tone that can be achieved are as important to the artist as her subject matter. In both painting and etching McTague strives to achieve a sense of balance and harmony.

She has exhibited widely including being selected for the Laing Landscape Exhibition, (prize winner), ‘The National Print Exhibition’, Mall Galleries, London, ‘Originals’, London, ‘North Lincolnshire Open’, ‘The British International Mini Print’ and ‘International Mini Print’ in Norwalk U.S.A. In 2011, Moira was selected as an Artist in Residence at Nidderdale Museum.
