Meet The Artist

Artists statement

Printmaking is a process that allows me the freedom to be completely experimental with my visual language and this feeds the rest of my artistic practice. I enjoy the calm, meditative rhythm and surprises that print brings.

I have come to printmaking primarily through the route of safer etching, this means abandoning the more toxic traditional form of printing using nitric acid and solvents for the safer options using acrylic media and lower risk etching substances to produce prints.

I have a scattergun approach to print embracing various processes and techniques to reach my destination.

Plates and prints are created using collagraph, photopolymer, etching, drypoint and screenprint. I experiment with various permutations of embossing, intaglio, pronto and use chine colle on Chinese rice paper and selected Japanese papers chosen for their transparency. When the plates incorporate a degree of both relief and intaglio I like to use the viscosity inking process.

My work is about space, light and layers, engaging with the notions of solitude, isolation and fragility. Most of my imagery is inspired by snow and ice and my strong connection with Quebec.
