Meet The Artist

Artists statement

I am a printmaker who uses a variety of media to achieve the finished print, including carborundum, dry-point and screen printing, sometimes all within the same print. As a result some prints are unique whilst others are printed as a numbered edition.

In the past my work has been inspired by the industrial landscape of the North East; abstracting and reducing the imposing structures to their most basic form, portraying the powerful environment of the industrial landscape through expressive mark making and the essential memory of the place.

My most recent series of prints were developed using automatic drawing as a means of expressing ideas from the subconscious.

The resulting drawings are a starting point for the printing plate which is created as a painter might use a canvas, in the sense that the construction of the image is process led - instinctively reacting to marks as they are made.
